JULIA CHENG 鄭嘉欣

Julia Cheng’s work as a creative director and choreographer has been presented internationally including her critically acclaimed choreography on Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club in London's West End and on Broadway. It was also nominated for the 2022 Olivier Award (Best Theatre Choreography), 2024 Chita Rivera Award (Outstanding Choreography), and the winner of Stage Debut Awards. 

Recent works include Fiddler on The Roof at Regents Park Open Air Theatre which was nominated for 13 Oliver Awards including 2025 (Best Theatre Choreography) & WhatsOnStage Award (Best Choreography) and will be transferred to Barbican Centre Theatre in Summer 2025, followed by a national tour.

Julia has created work for dance, theatre, opera, musical theatre, commercial and grassroots projects. She believes in crossing boundaries of creative contexts, and the ability to challenge the ecology of the artistic landscape.

She is 2025-2028 Associate Artist at the Southbank Centre, judge and mentor for BBC Young Dancer, Breakin’ Convention and a proud Patron of Next Generation Youth Theatre in her hometown of Luton.

Julia is Creative Director and founder of House of Absolute, who were 2021-2023 Artist in Residence with Philharmonia Orchestra. She has collaborated with poet Lavinia Greenlaw, musicians Shingai, Floacist, composer Simon McCorry, artist/sculptor Laila Muraywid, curator Kerry Campbell, and theatre director/activist Daniel York-Loh, and also featured in campaigns for Dr Martens, Wella, Audi, Honda, and Vogue Italia.

Artistic commissions include Sadler's Wells, British Council, V&A Museum, Institute of Contemporary Art, Royal Opera House, Royal Shakespeare Company, Kings Place, London Jazz Festival, Wilderness Festival and many more.
